| Description | Notes on the Dr. David Franklin Powell, Known as "White Beaver": This article is about Dr. David Franklin Powell (1847-1906), a legendary La Crosse doctor who practiced medicine from 1869 to 1906. Powell had a close relationship with the Ho-Chunk, and was actively involved in the social life of La Crosse, particularly in bringing the circus and Buffalo Bill to the area. Powell's partnership with Colonel William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody (1846-1917) in land deals in Wisconsin and as far west as Wyoming and the manufacture of patent medicines, such as Yosemite Yarrow, Cough Cream and Wonder Worker under the auspices of the Cody-Powell Panamalt Company, are also discussed.
