Description
Ambrose Oschswald, a German priest, led a group of followers to Manitowoc County in 1854 where they founded St. Nazianz, the only Catholic communal society in America. The community prospered, but after its founder's death in 1873 dissention led to its dissolution and takeover by the Church. This view shows the community around 1860.
