i VVAW/WSO REGIONAL OFFICE 7<f2- P.O, 30a 19302 ' CincinnaLi, Ohio 45219 regional newsletter--June 7, 1973 Brothers, Sisters, Friends, At the last VVAW/WSO Regional Meeting, Gary Staiger, regional coordinator for the past 18 months, resigned from the job. During those 18 months the region has gone from very little to one of the ^ most active regions in the country--and Gary is the reason. Fortunately, he has not ^one into retirement--he is putting his abundant energies and talents into NOSCAii, organizing at Wright- Patterson, and the Dayton VVAW/WSC chapter. •k-k-k-k-kitic-kit-k At the same meeting, Pete Zastrow from Cincinnati was given the regional coordinator's job. I cannot do the job by myself—as a remilt, we have formed in Cincinnati a ve^ional Office Steering Committee, all of the members of which participate in planning arm decisions,- and the day-to-day work "(which is what it is) of running the regional office. Names and phone numbers appear at the er.d of this newsletter; the regional office address appears at the top of this page. •k ■k -k "k Mike Carmody, late of the Kent State University chapter, has agroec to take on the job of regional travelling organizer. If you have a chapter which needs help, or if you have simply a paper chapter which needs to get off the ground, let the regional office kno^ and we will make arrangements. ^ight now, with Vv\\W both in the news because of Watergate, and because of the July 17th opening of the Gainesville trial', we will be famous (or at least notorious): When we are in the news, it is easier to organize, and Mike can help. >v * * * So much for change in regional offices; it will take us a little time to get organized, so please bear with us. For the moment, at least, we plan to inclutie a regional newsletter with each issue of Winter SoJWaer (that is, once a month) to cut down on mailing costs. The newsletter is open--if either you or your cbepter have items which should be included, send them in. We need to know as much as possible from as many people as possible. * it -k JUNE 16: On the first anniversary of Watergate, the Peoples' Coalition for Peace and Justice (PCPJ) is sponsoring a large-scale protest demonstration in Washington, D.C. In the words of PCPJ, "If Nixon escapes public censure for his repression of dissent, his unconstitutional and barbaric bombing of Cambodia, his aid to the Thieu dictatorship, and his cut-backs in social services, we will all be in danger." The-Washington office of PCPJ is c/o the Metropolitan Washington Planning and Housing Association, 1225 K Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005. If you want immediate information, call PCPJ, at 212-924-2469. • -k -k -k -k ~k FESTIVALS: Almost everyplace has one, often with the possibility of setting up a cheap booth. We can help provide items to sell, but the primary hope is to meet and talk with people. In a two- day "Summerfair" in Cincinnati, we managed to add 75 names to our mailing list and make $80, much Of it through sales of Winter Soldier. And to talk to people. Try it—it works.
