NATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE SO END THE WAR IN VIETNAM (NCCEWV) 420 West Wahington Avenue Madison, Wisconsin 53703 Telephone: (608) 257-7141 3 August 1966 " FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; AUGUST 6-9 HIROSHIMA - NAGASAKI PROTESTS AGAINST THE WAR IN VIETNAM August 6-9 will mark the 21st anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The American peace movement will not mourn this day as a tragedy which befell the Japanese twenty-one years ago; they will mourn this day as a tragedy which befell humAiity and which continues to threaten the future of the human race. Protests throught the United States will equate the use of napalm and chemical warfare against the Vietnamese with dropping the atomic bcmb on Japan, The peace movement will demonstrate that it does not consider itself a party to these war crimes of the U.S. Government, Although victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atom blasts have requested that the malrriage of Luci Baines Johnson and Pat Nugent not be held on the anniversary of those awful holocausts, the President has chosen to ignore these pleas. The American peace movement believes that it is particularly inappropriate for the President to ignore these requests, especially when people all over the world are horrified at our use in Vietnam of genocidai weapons against civilian populations.
