Mary Lou Burg FOft NAUMIAL WWHITKWO 1 I have been asked by many Wisconsin Democrats about my position on a number of key state and national issues and the direction of my potential voting on resolutions and issues before the Democratic National Committee should I be elected National Committeewoman from Wisconsin. 1. CIVIL RIGHTS I believe in, and would work for, the enactment of the major recommendations of the President's Commission on Civil Disorders. I believe that racial discrimination and abject poverty still exists in America and that the major causes of our past riots and those that I fear are yet to come, are the result of a century of indifference and disregard of the Negroe's rights. I would urge the passage of appropriation measures that are recommended by the President's Commission as the only way that America can solve it's most desperate dilemma, 2. VIET NAM I am 100$ in favor of President Johnson's recent order restraining the bombing of North Viet Nam and the de-escalation brought about as a result of his decision so that peace negotiations can proceed. I am in favor of the President's apparent position (as well as that of Senators McCarthy and Kennedy) to include the National Liberation Front in the negotiation discussions and to recognize their interest in any peace agreements reached between ourselves and North Viet Nam. 3. HOUSING PROGRAM I am in favor of the passage of the Senate Sub Committee on Housing's recommendation of the President's proposed $8 billion housing program for low-income families and the elderly. This housing program would not only Include the city and ghetto poor but also the rural poor of America. k. DRUG CONTROL LEGISLATION I am In favor of the passage of the drug control bill that Senator Nelson, Senator Hart and Senator Long have proposed, reducing not only the enormous profiteering in the drug Industry but also enacting controls on the marketing of relatively untried and potentially dangerous drugs to the American people. 5. TEACHER CORPS I am In favor of dramatic increases in the appropriation for Senator Nelson's Teacher Corps program. This program has been severely cut because of the Viet Nam War but I would urge that in spite of the war expenditures that the Teacher Corps budget be fully reinstated. I would also ask the same for the Headstart program which has been drastically retrenched financially. 6. AGRICULTURE I am in favor of Senator Mondale's bill on assistance In marketing for American farmers, particularly as it relates to the family farm and the farmer's right to bargain collectively.
