Quarter-length oval studio portrait of Hans Jacobson, a private of Company C, 15th Wisconsin Infantry in uniform and kepi [forage cap] displaying a C on the underside of the brim and 15 on the collar of the uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He held residence in Norway, Wisconsin. On March 14, 1862, he enlisted at Waterford and was mustered into service at Madison, Wisconsin on December 2, 1861, at the age of 25. He was captured during the battle at Stone River, Tennessee and returned to Company C as a paroled prisoner of war. He was held as a paroled prisoner of war at St. Louis, Missouri from March to May 1863. In July 1863, was moved Columbus, Ohio as a paroled prisoner of war until September 25, 1863, when he became ill and was sent to Annapolis, Maryland. He did not muster out with Company C at the term of service.
