The double set of county officers with whom AVaupaca County labored for several yeai^s after the introduction of Civil Government was the cause of much confusion in the early public affairs and the keeping of the early records. At this temporal distance from the scenes of conflict, the Avriter has no inclination to "take sides," and will, as a rule, alloAV the actors of the pioneer days to do the talking and the writing. Other¬ wise, in presenting a mental jiicture of the few years of seething county government following its authorized creation, the writer will use such records from both factions of the county seat fight as have descended to the present. 136
