654 HISTORY OF WAUPACA COUNTY Felix Edward Paronto, one of the best known citizens of Waupaca County, a former mayor of the City of Waupaca, is now enjoying the steady routine of work and the advantages of a life on the farm. Just a mile and a quarter from his farm was the birthplace of Mr. Paronto. He was born and still lives in Little 'Wolf Township. His birth occurred October 15, 1869, and he is a son of Frank and Julia (Brewley) Paronto. His father was born in New York State and his mother in Vermont. AVhen they came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1865 they made the journey from Ripon by team, which carried them into Little AVolf Township. Frank Paronto bought forty acres in the midst of the woods, and on all sides there were few marks of improvements, and the only highways were the logging roads. He put up a log house for the accommodation of himself and family, added other log structures for his stock and implements, and in course of time had the forty acres all under cultivation. Mr, Frank Paronto still resides on his farm in Little Wolf Township, but his wife is now deceased. They were a Catholic family and their children were reared in the same faith. The children were five in number: Fred, of Royalton Township; John, in the real estate business at Seattle, Washington; Henry, who follows the barber trade at Centralia, Washington; William, on the old farm; and Felix E. Felix Edward Paronto completed, his education in the high school at Aianawa. His first experience was as clerk in a store, following which he learned the barber's trade, and followed it twenty-five years con¬ secutively. For twenty years of that time he owned a shop in Waupaca, and being a man of exceptional skill at his trade and of genial and pleasing manner, he won a large and loyal following of friends. His ambition, however, was for the life of the country, and about 1905 he bought a farm, to which he moved his home in 1913, His farm com¬ prises 120 acres situated on the shores of Bear Lake, lying partly in Royalton and partly in Little Wolf Township, Air. Paronto is making a success as a farmer and stockman, and has already added a great deal to the value of the place by remodeling the buildings and introducing improved methods in the fields. As a stockman he breeds the pure blooded Holstein cattle. In 1892 he married for his first wife Miss Jessie Delamater. By that marriage there was one child, Nellie. In July, 1901, he married Miss Anna Knudson. In politics Mr. Paronto is a republican. While living in Waupaca he served as an alderman two terms and subsequently became mayor. He has been an active worker in behalf of his party for many years. Richard S, Schroeckenstein, AI. D. In point of continuous service the oldest physician and surgeon of Marion is Doctor Schroeckenstein, who located there in 1891. None of the physicians who were in practice ^at the time still remain except Doctor Schroeckenstein. His success and prestige in professional circles have been proportionate to the length
