90 MEMOIRS OF WAUKESHA COUNTY Reynolds and John Smith, supervisors. Democrats • elected one assemblyman and one supervisor. In 1864 the Democratic ticket drew a slightly larger majority among voters in the county than did the Republican ticket the previous year. McClellan's majority over Lincoln was 185. The votes of soldiers in the field however more than offset this, giving a majority to the national ticket and electing the whole county ticket except register of deeds. Gen. Halbert E. Paine, Union, was elected to Congress in this, then the first, district. Following are the members of the assembly, with their residence and years of service, from Waukesha county, from the organization of the county until the present time.
