Isaac h. Burch (see page 103) was forty years old last July aod has lived thirty years io Burnett county. He was born M Swedish parents at Broctoo, N. Y., and from there his parents moved to Corry, Peae.;MoliQe, IIL, High Forest and Center City, Minn.^ finally settling io West Marshland, Burnett county. His father was a Swedish Methodist minister and did a lot of missionary work along both religious and immigration lines. Isaac has worked in this county as far- .mer. surveyor, locator, cruiser and log¬ ger.' At present he is log buyer for a Minnesota firm and his duties take him to many parts of the United States. He spent one summer in Indian Territory as JIAKRy BAGKMARK^ ALSTAD CREAM¬ ERY BUTTER MAKEIi« OSCAR J. THORSSBK'(butter MAKEE.)/ ALPHA P. O., W^OOD RIVER CRBAMEBY. United States land appraiser and was state land appraiser in thi? county this summer. He has taken an active interest in local politics for a oumber of years. Oo page 97 is a portrait of the man who put up the building shown on page 96. E. A. Durkee was born in Nova Scotia in 1865, moved to Minoeapolis in 1882 and came to Burnett county in 1896, He took a homestead near what is now Perida postoffice and has opened quite a farm for a man whose occupation is strictly something else. He has about fifteen acres under cultivation with a fine lot of voung fruit which is doing well. He Is a contractor and builder and is away from home much of the time leaving his family oo the claim to run the farm. He has recently formed a partnership with Charles Hendrickson of the same place and intends to have an office at the county seat aod do all kinds of building. He has an extensive exper¬ ience'as foreman on some very promioent buildings in Minneapolis, notably the Phoenix and McCormick t3uildiogs that cost many thousands of dollars. He was foreman for Leek & Prince of Mioneapo- lis for a number of years and also had chhrgp- of the work of patting up about 100 factories? and other buildings at St* Louis Park just w^est of Minneapolis* Tlie sheriff's residence aod jail is his best advertisement In this county for future consideration.
