Description | This table combines two popular techniques for the decoration of furniture: painting and marquetry. The marquetry tabletop consists of sunburst and checkerboard patterns in contrasting colors of veneer. A band of diamond shapes outlines the circular top, and the toothed edges of the table are also veneered in alternating dark and light woods. The rest of the table is painted black with gold detailing around the edge and outlining the legs. Each of the three legs, as well the bottom portion of the central pillar, features a painted flower in yellow and green. |
History | According to the records of the Sheboygan County Historical Society, this table descended in the family of maker William Stephen of Sheboygan. |
