| Description | "Personal Narrative of Capt. Thomas G. Anderson" is British trader Anderson's (1779-1875) memoir of his experiences in Canada, the Lake Huron area, Wisconsin and Minnesota from about 1800 to 1870, when this narrative was written. He describes the British capture of Prairie du Chien in 1814, supplying Indians with homes, supplies, and schools, the fur trade and animal trapping, and the payment of annuities to various Indian tribes. Anderson believed that the Indians were often treated poorly by the British and much of his narrative concerns his encounters with Ho-Chunk, Sioux, Pottawatomie, Sauk, and Ojibwe people. (68 pages) |
