| Description | Big Bay Blue: When Curly, Johnny Blood, and Green Bay Showed the Way: This article chronicles the early history of the Green Bay Packers. In 1919 Green Bay Press-Gazette sports editor George W. (“Cal”) Calhoun (1890–1963) and Earl (“Curly”) Lambeau (1898-1965) founded the team. In 1921 the Packers Joined the American Professional Football Conference, which became the National Football League in 1922. The articles describes how the team, despite financial hardship, had string of winning seasons in the 1920’s and went on to become the NFL’s first dynasty in the 1930’s. The article also offers information about early Packers players such as Johnny Blood (nee John V. McNally) (1903-1985), both on and off the field. (14 pages) |
