Strategically located on the Rock River along the border of Jefferson and Dodge counties, Watertown grew quickly into a prosperous market town. Founded in 1836, by 1855 it was the second largest community in the state. This view made 30 years later clearly shows its mills, rail yards, public buildings, and neighborhoods.
