Hurley, Wis., Ashland County 1886 / Beck & Pauli, litho.
Norris, Wellge & Co.
The lumbering and iron mining booms of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan brought Hurley into existence, though the inset sketch depicting Hurley in 1885 as a forest clearing, somewhat exaggerates the speed of its growth. Iron County was not created until 1893, so the Ashland County of the title is correct.
