The first electrical plant in Mineral Point was installed in the engine and boiler room of the Mineral Point Zinc Company, in 1891. H.S. Weil, a salesman for the Zinc Company, reportedly convinced the Jones brothers, majority stockholders, to install the generator. Service was first provided to the zinc works then extended to 21 other customers, direct from the plant, through 21 meters mounted on a switchboard. Weil devoted all of his time to the electric plant serving as chief engineer, lineman, bookkeeper, commercial manager and any other position that a budding utility needed. He continued with the utility business in Mineral Point through successive owners. Source: The Democrat Tribune Nov. 15, 1984
